ffective relationship, citizenship and leadership increasingly demands an understanding of the interpersonal, organizational and technological dimensions of human interaction. Communication majors investigate how messages and media influence individuals, groups and societies.

All communication majors complete a substantial internship. Some majors choose to pursue internships through off-campus programs such as the Philadelphia Center, the Urban Life Center in Chicago, the New York City Semester and the Washington Center. Because of its unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of communication and its emphasis on combining rigorous intellectual analysis with practical experience, the Central States Communication Association has recognized Alma's communication major as a Program of Excellence among colleges in the Midwest.

Alma's Communication Major is designed to prepare students for graduate work in interpersonal, organizational, and political communication; media studies and public affairs; and for careers in fields like corporate communication, training, counseling, human resource management, journalism, mediation and public relations.
