Communication Faculty

 Micheal R. Vickery: Ph.D., University of Texas, professor of communication and department chair, teaches courses in communication and technology, media and public communication, organizational and intercultural communication, and communication theory and research. His research interests include media literacy, the impact of media on political discourse and the rhetoric of technology. He serves as the campus liaison for the Philadelphia Center internship program. 

Joanne R. Gilbert: Ph.D., University of Texas, associate professor of communication, teaches courses in interpersonal and group communication, culture and communication performance, and fundamentals of speech. She studies the way gender, race and ethnicity affect communication and has a special interest in the uses of humor to communicate identity and address social issues. Her research focuses on topics such as the relationship between humor and power, performance aspects of culture, socio-political discourse and analysis of interpersonal and group interactions. 

David Lawrence: Ph.D., The Ohio State Universtiy, assistant professor of communication, teaches courses in media literacy, technology and society, electronic publishing, argumentation and public advocacy, and fundamentals of speech. His research interests include argumentation theory, judicial rhetoric, and economic, social and political implications for communication in the digital age. Additionally, his interests include the integration and evaluation of information technologies into the teaching/learning environment, supplementing the traditional classroom experience with collaborative work on the Internet and World Wide Web.

Ronald L. Massanari: Ph.D., University of North Carolina, Charles A. Dana Professor of Philosophy, teaches classes in business, legal and environmental ethics. 

John H. Ottenhoff: Ph.D., University of Chicago, professor of English, teaches courses in general linguistics and advanced writing. 

Nicholas J. Dixon: Ph.D., Michigan State University, professor of philosophy, teaches critical thinking as well as legal and medical ethics. 

Sandy Lopez-Isnardi: MFA, University of Cincinnati, assistant professor of art and design, teaches photography and graphic design.
